Cedar Rapids, a dynamic and full-service community of 131,000 residents, is seeking a professional and proven leader to serve as the City’s next FIRE CHIEF.  This vibrant community serves as an economic catalyst for the state of Iowa and continues to experience growth throughout its 72 square miles.  Because of the community’s access to I-380 and close proximity to I-80, this metro area of over 250,000 residents has developed a strong manufacturing and agriculturally based economy. The larger region, recognized as the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids (ICR) Corridor, boasts a population that exceeds 450,000 and is emerging as a technology and manufacturing hub for the Midwest. A recent winner of the prestigious ALL-AMERICA CITY Award, the “City of Five Seasons” continues to achieve great success with an ongoing Downtown renaissance, continuous revitalization of neighborhoods, and creatively adaptive the reuse of historic buildings. A series of both large and small development and redevelopment projects contributes toward a sense of excitement and enthusiasm about the community’s future. Downtown Cedar Rapids is bursting with activity and possesses a unique ambiance because of the scenic Cedar River that flows swiftly through the City’s central business and arts districts.

Minimum qualifications required to be selected as Fire Chief: a bachelor’s degree in fire, business or public administration, or a related field from an accredited institution; 15 years of experience in the fire service; and, currently possess at least the rank of captain on the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, or an equivalent position of responsibility with another department. The salary range is $115,000 – $159,000 plus an excellent benefit package.  Residency within the City is required. The City will provide up to $5,000 in moving expenses.

Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume on-line at https://springsted-waters.recruitmenthome.com/postings/2142; the position is open until filled with a first review of candidates occurring on Friday, January 18, 2019.  Following the first review date, resumes will be screened by the City’s Civil Service Commission in relation to the criteria outlined in the recruitment brochure and found on the posting link. Selected finalists will be invited to participate in on-site interviews after receiving candidates’ permission to conduct reference checks, background checks, and academic/credential verification.
