Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is looking for a progressive, forward thinking, innovator and transformational leader to lead Fire Rescue to a new level of excellence.
Escambia County Fire Rescue is committed to providing effective and efficient fire-rescue services that meet the community’s needs in life protection, property conservation, preservation of the environment, and fire prevention programs.
Escambia County Fire proudly operates as a combination fire department utilizing the talents and diversities of volunteer and career firefighting personnel. Volunteer firefighters operate out of 11 districts throughout Escambia County, while career firefighters operate out of 14 districts throughout Escambia County. Thirteen of the career companies are staffed 24 hours a day. Escambia County Fire Rescue also offers other emergency services such as hazardous material response, special operations and ALS non-transport.
Representative duties include:
Manages staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
Provides oversight and directs the implementation of internal operations, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, guidelines, directives, orders, and/or service offerings; ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; coordinates activities between multiple service areas; works to integrate and coordinate service areas.
Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of information, data, and reports; makes recommendations to the Board, County Administrator, department personnel, and the public based on findings.
Bachelor’s degree in fire management or public administration, finance, accounting or related field.
Fifteen years of progressively responsible firefighting/rescue experience, five years of which is management experience at the battalion level or above.
Experience in dealing with both volunteer and paid personnel and a leadership style that is conducive to conflict resolution and facilitation are preferred.
Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance or the ability to obtain within one year.
