Edna Faye Bishop

Alabama volunteer firefighter Edna Faye Bishop was killed on Sunday, April 7, when a fire department pumper overturned en route to a brush fire. Bishop, who was 29, was a passenger in the pumper, which left the road on a curve and rolled over. She was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later.

Bishop was one of three female firefighters on the 17-person Bon Secour Fire and Rescue Department, located on the Gulf Coast south of Mobile. She had recently completed her Firefighter I course. She leaves a husband, who is also a firefighter, and two young children.
